A full medical evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s overall health, which includes a review of their medical history, a physical examination, and various diagnostic tests to evaluate their physical health status. In the context of mental health treatment, a full medical evaluation can provide valuable information about a person’s overall health and help identify any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to their mental health symptoms.

The benefits of a full medical evaluation in assisting mental health treatment include:
A full medical evaluation is a valuable tool in mental health treatment, as it provides a comprehensive assessment of a person’s overall health and can help identify any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to their mental health symptoms. By addressing both physical and mental health needs, treatment can be more effective and tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Corner Canyon uses quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG), which is a test that analyzes the electrical activity of the brain to display and measure patterns that correspond to cognitive deficits and/or diagnostic evaluation. The qEEG measurements are also referred to as “brain mapping,” and at Corner Canyon we use it to provide initial assessment and then to measure progress every 30 days.
There are many research studies on qEEG for a wide variety of clinical indications, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, memory problems, traumatic brain injury (TBI), ADD/ADHD, and processing issues in autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Clients receive neurofeedback sessions two times a week in both Residential Treatment and Transitional living.
A full psychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that provides a detailed understanding of an individual’s mental health and well-being. The process typically includes a variety of assessment tools, including interviews, standardized tests, and questionnaires. The evaluation is conducted by a licensed mental health professional, such as a psychologist, who will gather information about the individual’s symptoms, history, and current functioning. This information is then analyzed to provide a diagnosis, if appropriate, and to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to the individual’s specific needs.
The benefits of a psychological evaluation include a better understanding of the individual’s mental health concerns, the identification of any underlying conditions that may be contributing to their symptoms, and the development of a personalized treatment plan that can help them achieve their goals. Additionally, a psychological evaluation can provide important information to other healthcare providers, such as primary care physicians or psychiatrists, to ensure that the individual receives comprehensive care for their mental health needs. Our consulting psychologists have extensive experience working with young adults and are adept at identifying problem areas to work on in treatment.
A psychiatric assessment is used to determine whether clients need the assistance of medications temporarily or long term to improve their mental, emotional, and physical functioning.
A full psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s mental health and well-being, typically conducted by a trained mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist or a psychiatric nurse practitioner. The process of conducting a full psychiatric evaluation typically involves a range of different tools and techniques, including interviews with the patient, standardized assessments and tests, medical and psychological history, and observation of the individual’s behavior and symptoms. The goal of a full psychiatric evaluation is to gain a thorough understanding of the patient’s mental health status, including any symptoms, underlying causes or risk factors, and potential treatment options.
The benefits of a full psychiatric evaluation are numerous. First and foremost, it can help to identify mental health conditions that may be affecting the patient’s well-being and quality of life, such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Additionally, the evaluation can help to determine the severity and potential impact of these conditions, as well as any co-occurring disorders or medical issues that may be contributing to the patient’s symptoms. A full psychiatric evaluation can also help to guide treatment decisions, including medication management, therapy, and other interventions. Overall, a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation can provide patients with a clearer understanding of their mental health and well-being, as well as a roadmap for achieving improved outcomes and overall quality of life.
In combination with Pharmacogenetic testing, our providers are able to prescribe appropriate medications to address short or long-term mental health concerns, and monitor clients while they adjust to medications. Sometimes it is appropriate to decrease or eliminate medications as well, and Corner Canyon Health Centers supervises the withdrawal of these medications.
Nutritional psychiatry is an emerging field of research that explores the relationship between diet and mental health. It focuses on how various nutrients and dietary patterns impact brain function, mood, and behavior. Nutritional psychiatry suggests that what we eat may affect not only our physical health but also our mental well-being. The benefits of nutritional psychiatry are many. Research suggests that a healthy diet rich in whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, may help to prevent and manage a range of mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Additionally, nutritional psychiatry may help to reduce inflammation in the body, which has been linked to various mental health disorders. A balanced and healthy diet may also improve sleep quality, cognitive function, and overall quality of life, all of which can positively impact mental health. Overall, nutritional psychiatry offers a promising avenue for promoting mental health and well-being through dietary changes and lifestyle modifications.
Pharmacogenetic DNA testing is a type of genetic testing that analyzes an individual’s DNA to identify genetic variations that may impact their response to certain medications. This testing can help medical providers to better understand how a patient’s genetic makeup may impact their response to certain drugs, and to personalize treatment plans accordingly.
The benefits of pharmacogenetic DNA testing are many. First, it can help medical providers to select medications that are most likely to be effective and safe for a particular patient based on their genetic profile. This can improve treatment outcomes and reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions, which can be especially important in the treatment of mental and physical health concerns. Second, pharmacogenetic DNA testing can help to guide dosing and medication adjustments, ensuring that patients receive the right amount of medication to achieve therapeutic benefits while minimizing side effects. Finally, pharmacogenetic DNA testing can provide medical providers with a deeper understanding of a patient’s unique biology and help to identify potential risk factors for certain health conditions.
Overall, pharmacogenetic DNA testing is a valuable tool for medical providers in the treatment of mental and physical health concerns. By providing personalized information about a patient’s genetic profile, medical providers can tailor treatment plans to meet the individual needs of each patient, leading to more effective and efficient care.
A biopsychosocial is an evaluation that a licensed clinician will conduct that assesses the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to a person’s health and well-being. It recognizes that health and illness are not simply a result of biological processes, but also of psychological and social factors, such as lifestyle, relationships, and environment.
In the context of mental health treatment, the biopsychosocial emphasizes the importance of understanding the interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors in the development and maintenance of mental health conditions. This approach recognizes that mental health issues are complex and multifaceted, and that effective treatment requires addressing all of the underlying factors that contribute to a person’s condition.
When developing individualized treatment plans, the biopsychosocial is beneficial for clients because it takes a holistic approach to their care. By considering all of the factors that contribute to a person’s mental health, including biological, psychological, and social factors, treatment plans can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
For example, a client with depression may benefit from a treatment plan that includes medication to address the biological factors contributing to their condition, psychotherapy to address the psychological factors, and social support and lifestyle changes to address the social factors.
The biopsychosocial also recognizes that mental health conditions can have a significant impact on a person’s social and economic well-being, and therefore, effective treatment should not only focus on symptom reduction but also on improving a person’s overall quality of life.
The biopsychosocial is beneficial for clients when developing individualized treatment plans because it takes a holistic approach to mental health care, considering all of the factors that contribute to a person’s condition and tailoring treatment plans to meet their unique needs. This approach can improve treatment outcomes and help clients achieve long-term recovery and improved quality of life.
